CAM Update

New diploma requirements begin with graduating class of 2007!

They require students to:

  • Develop an education plan and profile aimed at future school and career goals
  • Build a collection of evidence to demonstrate extended application
  • Demonstrate career-related knowledge and skills
  • Participate in career-related learning experiences

*Note:  for the diploma students will be engaged in demonstrating extended application and career-related knowledge and skills but are not required to meet a performance standard.  Specific CAM components to be in place September 2004.

By September 1, 2004, districts are to:

  • develop a process that provides each student in grades 7-12 opportunities to develop an education plan and profile.
  • make career learning frameworks available as guides for each student's plan and profile.
  • develop career-related learning experience opportunities that may be based in the school, workplace, or community, and that connect to students' education plans.
  • assist students in connecting post high school opportunities with the education and career goals identified in their plans.
  • develop opportunities for business and community partnerships that support the student CAM requirements.

Districts are to demonstrate continued progress toward CAM implementation prior to the 2004-2005 school year.  State Board to adopt performance standards, approve assessment criteria. The State Board will adopt performance standards and assessment criteria for extended application and career-related learning.  Then, districts will use assessment tools based on those criteria to determine if students meet the performance standards.  The Department of Education will work with pilot sites to develop assessment criteria during 2002-03 and 2003-04 school years.  Districts to award CAMs beginning September 2006  Beginning September 1, 2006, districts will award the CAM to students who meet the requirements in OAR 581-022-1120.  New rules combine flexibility within local contexts.  Adopted OARs posted at the ODE's web site.   To see, download, and print the adopted OARs, click www.ode.state.or.us http://www.ode.state.or.us>.  Click on CAM and Diploma OARs.  Please direct general comments or questions to:

TESA Updates

  • Students will continue to have 3 opportunities to test on the TESA system, similar to the 2004-2005 school year.   This year, however, there will be two short forms and one long form instead of the other way around.

  • Students will use their SSID (Statewide Student Identification) number to log in rather than a separate TESA ID number.

  • There will be five sections of each test.
